There’s a particular pleasure in stepping outside in October and realizing you don’t need the jacket you brought. The leaves are turning, the mornings feel like fall, and yet the afternoon is warm enough to make you reconsider eating lunch at your desk.

Metro Detroit has a stretch like that in the forecast. The National Weather Service is calling for mostly sunny or sunny skies from Wednesday through Saturday, with Detroit-area highs ranging from the upper 60s into the mid-70s. Wednesday and Saturday look especially warm. It’s a welcome invitation to spend a little more of the day outside.

This may be one of our last genuinely warm stretches of 2026, but nobody knows whether it’s the last. Anyone who’s spent a few autumns in Michigan knows better than to make that promise. We could get another pleasant surprise later in the season. For now, this one is worth enjoying on its own.

Make a little room for outside

It doesn’t have to mean rearranging the week. Take your lunch to a bench instead of the break room. Ask a coworker to join you. Open the windows for a while when the afternoon warms up. If dinner out is already in the plan, see whether your favorite neighborhood spot still has its patio open.

After work, there might be time for a walk before it gets dark. A loop around the block counts. So does taking the longer route through the park, letting the kids stay outside a bit longer, or sitting on the porch with someone you haven’t had a proper conversation with all day.

And if there’s an outdoor chore you’ve been putting off, a comfortable afternoon makes it easier. Tidy up the yard, sweep the steps, or finish that small project. Then leave yourself a few minutes to sit down and enjoy being out there.

The mornings and evenings will still be cooler, so keep that jacket handy. Check the day’s forecast before making plans, too. A sunny stretch in Michigan is still a forecast, not a guarantee.

We have some beautiful October weather ahead. Enjoy it while it’s here.

From all of us at Wees Express, here’s to a good week around Metro Detroit. We hope you find a little time for the sunshine.
